Professional Bio

Sylvia Grady Phillips is a native of San Antonio, Texas. She has lived in Houston for over thirty years. She is a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She is the owner and CEO of Sylvia G. Phillips Counseling/Coaching. Sylvia received her BS in Psychology from Our Lady of the Lake University and a master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University Graduate School.
Sylvia is a National Certified Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate, and Certified John Maxwell Coach. Sylvia’s approach to counseling includes trauma-informed care, cognitive and emotional processing, strengths-based counseling, and mindfulness and regulation tools.
Sylvia has an optimistic outlook on life and knows that taking action is the first step; if necessary, she advocates modifying your steps. Her positive attitude encourages others to persevere and never give up on their dreams. We all know that staying on course is not always an option. Therefore, Sylvia urges others to remain flexible in an ever-changing world. However, flexibility sometimes requires a shift in the way we think. Sylvia’s motto is that one should be true to oneself. She surmises that when you are true to self you will most often be true to others.
While many are striving to be great speakers, Sylvia understands that listening is one of the greatest gifts one can possess. She strives to be an excellent listener so that she not only hears but also understands others’ needs. Sylvia is well known for her confidentiality and professionalism. She remains true to strong values and morals and encourages others to do the same.
Sylvia is an author and has sat on various boards. Sylvia’s clients include individuals, groups, and non-profit organizations.
